I always knew I wanted to have a career that allowed me to be creative. I took ceramics throughout high school, and as I set out to pick a major, I realized that my period spent in the ceramics room was always the highlight of my day. I hope to become a high school art teacher and an advocate for the arts in education. While I myself was never an “art kid” I always loved art class and I found value in taking time out of my schedule to be creative and work with my hands. I hope to inspire other kids to find meaning in art. In my creative practice, I have tried to use my time in college to learn all I can about different mediums and means of creating art. I want to be well-versed in as many techniques and areas of art as possible, so I can better understand the art world and help my students create anything they hope to make. In my creative practice, I want to push boundaries and set creative goals. I want to make art that reflects my personality. Academically, I want to be well-rounded and knowledgeable about a wide range of topics so I can better understand the world around me and reflect that knowledge in my artwork. In order to be successful, I need to do my research and understand the topics I base my artwork on. As I finish college, I hope to push myself academically and artistically to create pieces that combine my mind with real-world occurrences to show how I interact with the world.
